Former Professional Tennis player Sania Mirza recently sat down for an exclusive chat with Curly Tales Middle East, offering a peek into her diverse kitchen and the delightful culinary choices that shape her family’s dining experience. Discussing her son’s love for dosa and exploring the details of Indian and Pakistani cuisines, Mirza’s revelations provide a personal glimpse into her life beyond the tennis court.

 

When asked about the prevalent cuisine in her home, Mirza shared that her household enjoys a blend of both Hindustani and Pakistani dishes. However, dosas hold a special place on their dining table, because her son, Izhaan, holds a penchant for them. Despite their varied cultural backgrounds, Mirza revealed a focus on a diet-conscious menu, leaning towards grilled options for the family’s meals.

“They are both quite similar, but we have a lot of dosas at home because Izhaan loves dosas. And normally, we are all on a diet, so it’s not like the food is made just for the people who come from outside and for Izhaan. We are—I am on a grilled-this, grilled-that diet,” Mirza explained with a smile.

Mirza acknowledged the similarities between Indian and Pakistani cuisines but pointed out a discernible variance in taste. According to her, individuals from both countries can usually distinguish whether a dish is of Indian or Pakistani origin, emphasizing the unique culinary signatures that define each. “The dishes are the same. The taste is a little different. We can tell. I think Indians and Pakistanis can tell that this is Pakistani food and this is Indian food,” she shared.

Humorously confessing her limited culinary skills, Mirza added, “Nothing, because I don’t know how to cook,” and admitted that her expertise extends to making eggs, although her son isn’t particularly fond of them. Despite her lack of prowess in the kitchen, Mirza’s straightforward acknowledgement added a hilariously human touch to her celebrity persona.

In a light-hearted moment, Mirza was asked to choose between two delectable options: shawarma and biryani. Without thinking twice, she quickly chose biryani, showing that she really liked the tasty South Asian rice dish.
